Running after 50 is not only possible but absolutely doable. In fact, some people run well passed 70. As with anything, you need to monitor your body and make adjustments to your routine. If new to running, be sure to start with a run-walk workout and plenty of stretching.
Local 5K runs and half marathons a few times a year are my favorite community events. When training, I use the go hard…go easy method allowing for recovery time and alternate fitness routines. This reduces the potential for injury and adds longevity to the time I have left in the sport.
How many times a week should a 50-year-old workout?
It is best to workout at least three days per week or every other day for an average of four days. Not necessarily the same workout. It is actually better to rotate cardio and strength training.
