Creating Memories with Holiday Traditions
Giving books for Christmas is one of my favorite holiday traditions. The yearly holiday book for my daughters was always so much fun for me to find and give.
When my girls were little, they’d get a new holiday book each year. Many of the books came from the book fair where I worked and some were more random in nature. Nevertheless, all of these books were saved with the Christmas décor at the end of the season. When the next season arrived, the books had that feeling of new. This was most likely because they stayed in an almost new condition and were only read in December.

The Next Generation
Time moved along as it does, and now I re-gift the books each year. Carrying this holiday tradition to the next generation has been extra special. Because my girls shared the holiday book each year, I duplicate the book of the year and add an individual message about the original year and a picture to each of my girls.
My oldest daughter’s book has a message to her babies as well. Later, when my youngest child has a family, I will add a message to her children.
Passing these books onto the next generation is priceless. This holiday tradition is one of my parenting wins that still makes my heart happy each year.
This year the girls get a beautifully illustrated book that was originally received in 1995. The Wild Christmas Reindeer is one of my favorites. This wonderful reindeer tale was a gift from my Grandma and that makes it priceless.
Give a Child the Gift of Creative Thought and Imagination
If you have children on your holiday shopping list, please consider the gift of a book. Engaging children in the act of listening, and eventually reading, gives them the gift of creative thought and imagination.
I hope your season is filled with the spirit of Christmas love and lots of cherished moments.
